Data Dutch Offshore Wind Atlas

The Dutch Offshore Wind Atlas (DOWA) is a wind atlas covering a period of 10 years, from 2008 until and including 2017.

Regional numerical weather model HARMONIE and additional satellite and aircraft measurements were used to downscale global re-analysis ERA5 to dataset of hourly information on a 2.5 by 2.5 km grid spacing and up to 600 m height. The DOWA domain covers 789 by 789 points centered around Cabauw and contains at least wind speed and wind direction at 17 height levels: 10, 20, 40, 60, 80, 100, 120, 140, 150, 160, 180, 200, 220, 250, 300, 500 and 600m.

The DOWA dataset contains daily 3D files and 10 year time series. The data used to be stored in KNMI Data Centre (KDC) and a DOWA download manual was provided, but now the data is stored on the KNMI Data Platform (the manual is no longer useful). If you encounter any difficulty with downloading the data please contact dataservices@knmi.nl.
